About The Role/The Day To Day
ALS Mudgee are looking for the next Laboratory Manager to lead our unique team in a well-established Environmental Lab
The Laboratory Manager Is Responsible For
  • Day-to-day production management for the laboratory.
  • Management of due list and coordination of work orders being reported.
  • Day to day management of staff resources, management of labour, casuals and shift and roster approval.
  • Ensuring that long term HR strategies are adhered to and that PMR compliance is maintained.
  • Maintain mean Early and On-Time Service Delivery performance of greater than divisional criteria.
  • Maintain significant service delays (>1 day) of less than divisional criteria.
  • Maintain sectional result error rates at levels below targeted minimums.
  • Capacity planning for sample volume increases, new equipment, staff increases, preparation of minor CEP’s and recommendations of major CEP’s in conjunction with State Manager.
  • Ensuring the laboratory is suitably equipped and staffed and using approved methodologies to provide a quality service to clients.
  • Delegating NATA signatories to check and approve final reports prior to dispatch, advising staff to take corrective action where necessary.
  • Ensuring staff members are appropriately trained and have the knowledge and skills to perform their roles competently.
  • Continually assess the laboratory to increase productivity and efficiency through equipment upgrading, method enhancements or implementation of new technology.
  • Authorisation of the purchase of consumables.
  • Ensuring the efficient running and the overall administrative coordination of the laboratory. This will include optimizing staff numbers, cross training staff and minimizing maintenance costs.
  • Other duties related to the successful operation and administration of the laboratory as requested by the Business Manager/State Manager.
About You/The Essentials
  • A bachelor’s degree in science (preferably Chemistry).
  • 5 years’ laboratory experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Understanding of basic business principles.
  • Understanding of financial reporting (eg. P&L).
  • Strong customer focus.
  • Genuine leadership abilities.
  • Excellent computer literacy.
  • High organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective supervisory and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Strong quality service attitude and approach.
  • Sound decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Projects enthusiasm and motivation.
  • Results focused.
