About the role:
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual to join our Oncology Business Unit (OBU) Medical Affairs organization as a Strategic Project Manager. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in leading ground-breaking initiatives and strategic projects across Global Medical Affairs while driving process standardization across project teams and fostering a culture of collaboration and improvement. This role will report directly to the Senior Director, Project Management Office in our Medical Innovation, Strategy, and Operations team, and will be based in Mississauga, Canada.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a complex, matrixed environment, demonstrating efficiency, critical thinking, collaborative work ethic, decisive action, and strong leadership skills to contribute effectively to the overarching objectives of OBU Medical Affairs.
  • Lead strategic and ground-breaking initiatives aligned to organizational goals and priorities, and provide strategic guidance to project teams and other project managers to drive collaboration and accountability for results within the medical affairs organization.
  • Drive the standardization and optimization of processes within medical affairs, identifying improvement opportunities and developing standardized procedures, tools, and templates to streamline operations and enhance productivity in areas such as annual medical and strategic planning (e.g. annual medical planning, RWE, tumor franchise strategy, evidence generation, etc.).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members to define project objectives and scope, while continuously supervising progress and implementing corrective actions to ensure alignment with desired outcomes.
  • Lead efforts to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of project management practices, including but not limited to, project planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Provide guidance and training to project managers and teams on the use of project management tools and methodologies, ensuring adherence to best practices and consistency across teams.
  • Proactively manage partner expectations and address concerns to ensure alignment and support for project initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging feedback, learning, and inclusion, while staying updated on industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in project management and process optimization.
Essential Skills / Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in project management with a demonstrable track record in delivering projects in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Smartsheet, etc.).
Desirable Skills:
  • Advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPH, PharmD or equivalent) preferred.
  • Experience in Oncology Medical Affairs processes, including strategic business planning, annual medical plans, process standardization, etc.
  • Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP) or a comparable project management qualification, or experience with Six Sigma or Agile Project Management.
