Reporting to the EHS Director, the EHS Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day environmental, health and safety functions at the site. The EHS Specialist assists planning, establishing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of health, safety, and environmental programs to ensure the highest possible degree of safety for employees by working with other team members, key support departments, and critical stakeholders across the company.
This position is located in Strathroy, Ontario, one of two sites located in Canada offering softgel development and manufacturing capabilities for the Pharmaceutical and Consumer Health industries. We have a broad range of integrated formulation, manufacturing, analytical and packaging services to offer full-service turnkey solutions.
Shifts: Regular working hours: 8:30 AM-5:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch

The Role
- Ensure compliance with all EHS regulations, rules, permits and licenses relevant to the site.
- Ensure that hazards, unsafe conditions, and safety concerns are corrected in a timely manner.
- Facilitate training in compliance with EHS requirements.
- Lead / Assist in conducting risk assessments – identifying and installing the appropriate controls.
- Lead / co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee abiding by the Terms of Reference.
- Conduct workplace inspections (JHSC and independent).
- Provide the necessary training for new hires and contractors.
- Train, facilitate and ensure safety concerns and incidents and accidents are reported promptly and level of investigation supports the identification of root cause (s) and immediate and preventative actions.
- Post secondary education required.
- Occupational Health and Safety Certificate required.
- JHSC level 1 and 2 certified.
- Bachelor’s Degree (Human Resources or related field) is an asset.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is an asset.
- Minimum 3+ of experience working in an H&S capacity required.
- Experience working in a pharmaceutical, manufacturing and/or GMP facility is preferred.
- Working in a unionized environment preferred
- Must be proficient in MS office – PowerPoint, excel, word.
- Very strong sense of urgency with proven record of following through to meet deadlines and commitments.
- Works cooperatively in teams, communicates clearly, and has effective listening skills.
- While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear.
- The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard.
- Use of manual dexterity is required.
- The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, bend, or twist, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- This position includes potential exposure to human bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials.
- There is also the potential exposure to chemicals.
