The Finance Accountant must have a strong working knowledge and comprehension of accounting principles to contribute to various general accounting functions within the Canadian entity.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Reconcile designated general ledger accounts across all entities with supporting analytics.
  • Participate in the quarterly balance sheet review process as directed.
  • Aid in cash forecasting, monitoring daily cash positions.
  • Prepare regular status reports on cash balances and projections for senior management, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Manage monthly bank reconciliations for all accounts.
  • Facilitate the close process by preparing and processing journal entries, including recurring entries.
  • Generate reports and analytics, manage intercompany transactions, and conduct reconciliations.
  • Assure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger through monthly and quarterly reconciliations and ad hoc analyses.
  • Manage month-end reporting to Corporate and senior management.
  • Assist in preparing income statements, balance sheets, and key metrics by reporting unit.
  • Contribute to completing quarterly legal package reporting.
  • Oversee fixed asset accounting, maintaining internal orders, updating the fixed asset register.
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations to the general ledger, create audit schedules, and regularly investigate open projects with stakeholders.
  • Assist in annual year-end inventory counts.
  • Support the year-end audit process by preparing schedules for client assistance packages and fulfilling auditor requests.
  • File monthly sales tax returns as per specified due dates.
  • Support the quarterly forecasting and annual budget process by providing data, reports, and analytics on various items.
  • Assist in calculating vendor rebates and ensuring timely payments.
  • Uphold accuracy and integrity of accounting data for internal controls, evidenced through sign-offs.
  • Evaluate existing internal control documentation, test current processes and procedures, and provide recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and address internal control deficiencies within the Finance department and the company.
  • Collaborate with the team to implement changes.
  • Document and implement new procedures or processes to mitigate internal control deficiencies.
  • Handle the preparation of monthly Statistics Canada reports, commodity tax returns, and assist with audits.
  • Maintain organized records for all transactions and stay current with designated training.
  • Undertake other related duties or projects assigned by supervisors or senior management within the Finance team.
Qualifications:
  • University degree or diploma in business or accountancy.
  • Experience in an accounting environment or capacity.
  • Completion of an accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CGA) is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced pharmaceutical and/or manufacturing environment is desirable.
  • Proficient computer skills with the ability to quickly learn and efficiently use new programs.
  • Intermediate or higher knowledge of Excel.
