Scientist – Enabling Formulation
An exciting opportunity for a Scientist to join the Pharmorphix® Solid Form Group who will pay a pivotal role in growing our Preformulation offering.
Operating from a state-of-the-art facility in Cambridge, UK, we are world leaders in Solid State Science and Crystallisation Development. Our services include solid-form and physicochemical profiling, preformulation services, salt/polymorph and cocrystal screening and selection, and scale up of forms.
Our team is ideally placed to help support and accelerate the development of small molecule API’s from late discovery, through clinical studies to commercialisation. We have 8 dedicated solid state laboratories fully equipped with state of the art instrumentation including but not limited to capabilities in; X-Ray Powder Diffraction (including variable temperature and humidity) Single Crystal Diffraction, Thermal analysis (DSC and TGA), GVS/ DVS, automated pKa/ logP, solubility and dissolution measurement platforms for physicochemical analysis along with multiple crystallisation development tools and PAT tools, including Optimax reactor and Mettler Toledo FBRM, PVM, Renishaw Raman Spectroscopy and a Malvern Mastersizer 3000.

Key responsibilities:
- Demonstrate commitment to EHS through actively participating in the safety culture
- Perform a range of assigned research experiments as directed by the Team Leader Analytical Services
- Being responsible for, and troubleshooting & maintaining Analytical equipment
- Interpret experimental data and highlight any interesting or unexpected results
- Contribute to the design of experimental protocols and exercise technical judgement in the execution of these.
- Report experiments accurately and promptly. Keep laboratory notebooks up to date in accordance with the company’s quality procedures. Write high quality reports for submission to customers
- Communicate results at internal project meetings and externally to customers
- Consistently monitoring analytical techniques for process improvement ideas and new techniques and implementing any actions as a result of this
Requirement for role:
- A degree or PhD in a chemistry related discipline or pharmaceutical sciences (or equivalent industry experience)
- Relevant industry experience in a CRO/R&D environment with experience working in a formulation/preformulation laboratory.
- Experience in screening and developing vehicles for early stage formulation prototypes, ideally in either Solid Oral and IV dosage forms (or both)
- Sound knowledge of excipient properties and the excipient screening and selection process
- The ability to work reactively, effectively troubleshoot, and adapt in an R&D/innovator environment.
- Familiarity with HPLC method transfer and troubleshooting is ideal
- A good theoretical understanding of Physicochemical techniques such as pKa, LogP, Dissolution and solubility with experience in these related disciplines is desirable
- The ability to work on multiple projects at any one time, and adapt generic methods and procedures to suit individual project requirements in busy high throughput lab
- Knowledge of GMP, GLP, and ISO 9001 is desirable
