Our client is a growing biotech with their HQ in Belgium.


Our client is currently looking for a Business Controller, a newly created position reporting to the Finance Director.

The Business Controller supports the Finance department in different areas, focusing on financial planning and management reporting, more future-looking than past looking regarding planning/budgeting/forecasting.

He/she manages insights of financial performance of the business, on department and project level. In addition, he/she has exposure to the CFO and CEO and other members of the management team.

The Business Controller is allowed to work from home 2 days a week.


  • Preparation, data collection and calculation of the quarterly forecast
  • Preparing monthly management reporting and analysis of financial figures in PowerBI
  • Monitoring, analyzing and interpreting financial results and business information
  • Support in the preparation of audit and annual financial control
  • Safeguarding the data model for internal financial reporting
  • Preparing financial presentations and reports for the relevant stakeholders (Project Leaders, heads of department, management team, board meeting, banks, shareholders)
  • Support in monitoring both the short- and long-term financial key aspects (cash planning, cash flow, …) of the entity and its subsidiaries
  • Support in monitoring of the value creation of the different departments/projects by using financial indicators in financial models and by challenging their business plan
  • Support in the preparation of the periodical financial grant reports


  • Preferably a master’s degree in accounting, finance or a related field
  • Min. 5 years’ or experience in a similar role or experience in a financial consulting firm (ideally audit)
  • Knowledge of analytical and accounting concepts (Belgian GaaP) is a must. Knowledge of IFRS norms is a plus
  • Ability to understand complex businesses and projects. Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical industry is a plus but not essential
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting financial reporting
  • Experience in investment analysis and financial modelling (ROI model) is an asset
  • Experience in advising stakeholders without a financial background
  • Good communication and negotiation skills
  • Motivated and eager to learn
  • Ability to work independently
  • Well-organized, accurate, hands-on, result-focused
  • Flexible and able to multitask
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Ability to set priorities and take initiatives
  • Fluent in Dutch and English (both written and spoken)
