Scientist - Product Development

Position Summary:
Catalent Pharma Solutions is Morrisville, NC is hiring a Scientist, Product Development. This individual works independently, conferring with superior on unusual matters. May be assisted by laboratory technicians/assistants or associate level scientists. Assignments are broad in nature, requiring originality and ingenuity. Has appreciable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision. He/she may direct projects and employees, taking on a technical lead role. Expected to serve as a liaison to internal and external customers on progress of their formulation and product development activities supporting nasal and inhalation development programs. Comply with divisional and site Environmental Health and Safety requirements.
This is a full-time role position: Monday – Friday, days.

The Research Triangle Park (RTP) facility is Catalent's Center of Excellence for Analytical Services and is also home to Catalent's Inhalation franchise including product development, clinical and commercial manufacturing for DPI and Nasal Sprays.

The Role

• Develop and execute product development work scope independently, using customer milestones and Division/site performance standards and metrics
• Authors technical documents, such as protocols, test methods, text reports, certificates of analysis, and operating procedures
• Review technical documents for accuracy, thoroughness and regulatory compliance
• Lead and mentor junior scientists and engineers to meet technical milestones on appropriate timelines and provide technical feedback and recommendations at the project level
• Represent Catalent and create expert content such as: posters, white papers, webinars & create relationships with academic collaboration
• Identify and support introduction of new technologies to enhance product development capabilities at the site
• All other duties as assigned;
  

The Candidate

• 4-year degree in a physical, chemical, biological, engineering, or pharmaceutical science required
• BS with 4+ years of experience with developing combination drug products; OR MS with 2+ years of experience with developing combination drug products; OR PhD with 0+ years of experience with developing combination drug products
• Knowledge of development for drug-device combination products; preferably nasal and inhalation dosage forms
• Experience working with basic lab equipment such as osmometers, viscometers, density meters and ability to perform unit operations such as blending, solubilization, filling, and labelling and finishing.
• Experience with drug product performance evaluation testing such as droplet-size distribution, spray content uniformity, plume geometry, spray pattern, and aerodynamic particle size testing is preferred.
• Experience and knowledge with Design of Experiments (DoE) and experience statistical software packages (e.g. Minitab) highly desired.
• Experience with different molecular modalities: small molecules, peptides, proteins, nucleic acids (pharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics) a plus
• Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-15 pounds;
