We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed and self-motivated pharmacist to join our Electronic Prescribing team of pharmacists and technicians To develop, maintain and improve our Cerner EPMA system. This role also includes the opportunity to provide an advanced clinical pharmacy service to maintain your clinical skills . The post will be responsible working with clinicians to develop the system, improve patient safety, enhance patient care and support the training of staff in its use.

We are a forward thinking department using robotic dispensing, electronic prescribing and electronic pharmaceutical care planning. To meet the needs of our patients we provide ward-based clinical pharmacy, pharmacist led clinics and have an extensive team of independent prescribers.
Applicants should ideally have, or be prepared to work towards becoming an independent prescriber in order to manage medication throughout the patient’s stay and ensure a high quality and efficient pharmacy service.
Applicants should hold a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy, or demonstrable equivalent experience (see person specification) and must be registered as pharmacists with the GPhC.
  • The building, development, implementation, maintenance and evaluation of electronic prescribing and medicines administration systems.
  • Ensure that policies, protocols and standard operating procedures for EPMA are developed and implemented.
  • Review all EPMA related incidents.
  • Be responsible for the risk management, quality assurance and continuous improvement of the EPMA system.
  • Design and delivers EPMA information training to Pharmacy staff, Nurses, Doctors and other professional’s staff
  • Supervise all upgrades of the EPMA module and ensure all software functions have been tested before going live.
  • Contribute to the analysis of prescribing to support clinical and financial queries or reports.
  • Contribute to the clinical governance process by reducing medication errors in the EPMA system.
The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.
The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.
The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.
