The Industrial Hygienist will offer direct industrial hygiene and health and safety assistance to growing East Coast R&D sites. The objective is to standardize HSE programs, enhance safety culture, and streamline execution processes across Philadelphia, NYC, and Boston sites, encompassing existing and potential acquisitions. This role involves close collaboration with the LRL HSE Regional Team to evaluate risks, prioritize requirements, and advance HSE initiatives at East Coast sites. The focus is on achieving adherence to applicable Lilly HSE standards within appropriate timeframes based on their longevity and relationship as a Lilly entity. To propel the implementation of crucial safety measures, the Industrial Hygienist will focus on areas such as laboratory biosafety, biological safety, chemical safety, and electrical emergency preparedness and response. They will offer substantial support to site HSE and operations personnel, whether remotely or on-site. This support extends to handling external inspections, internal audits, and addressing emerging HSE issues or incidents that demand additional assistance. Furthermore, they will engage in collaborative efforts with LRL HSE regional technical hub personnel, effectively prioritizing and implementing industrial hygiene needs and project work across east coast research sites.

Responsibilities
- Gain knowledge of and serve as a technical resource for core H&S tools and Lilly processes such as SciQuest, Prior Approval, HeadsUp, SDS Management, Exposure Assessment Database, and other tools.
- Maintain an ongoing understanding of the H&S liabilities, risks and capabilities for each east coast site, including using site connections and business and HSE systems to anticipate changes in site risk profiles based on site growth, capital projects, changes to modalities and the evolution of science at east coast sites.
- Partner with LRL HSE Regional Technical Hub, LRL HSE technical resources, and site HSE resources to address identified gaps, grow safety culture, develop & implement HSE roadmaps and achieve prioritized goals.
- Assist sites in understanding appropriate timing and help implement core LRL HSE systems and processes for notification to management, incident response, corporate reporting, lab inspections, and other systems used across the LRL network.
- Collaborate with LRL HSE Regional Team to recommend and assist in developing simplified, right-sized HSE programs for regional research sites. Provide input in recruiting and evaluating site HSE contract support personnel, ensuring technical expertise aligns with site activities.
- Network with LRL HSE technical resources and recommend arrangements for specialized HSE contract assistance and as needed for project work that lies outside existing site capabilities.
- Lead or support special projects as assigned by the LRL HSE Regional Site Integration and Execution Lead, LRL HSE.
- Responsible for informing, educating, and collaborating with scientific staff and management leaders within LRL organization where needed regarding site HSE issues, programs and needs.
- Provide IH and HS support for HSE programs including but not limited to the following systems/programs across the east coast sites
- Bachelors degree or higher in a scientific or pharmaceutical development-related field
- HSE expertise with 5+ years of Industrial Hygiene related experience
- Knowledge of basic HSE regulations and regulatory framework (OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc.)
- Pharma, biotech or laboratory based HSE experience
- Certification in Industrial Hygiene
- Familiarity with industrial safety programs (equipment lockout, machine guarding)
- Previous experience in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements in a research environment.
- Experienced in interaction with external inspectors on the local and/or federal level.
- Previous experience with or knowledge of scientific laboratory instrumentation.
- Experience and Knowledge with IBC /IACUC/AAALAC Safety and environmental guidelines and regulations.
- Proven capability to effectively engage and influence scientists and/or business partners, leading to the achievement of business results.
