Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is recruiting for a Scientist position in the medicinal chemistry department located at the Beerse campus close to Antwerp Belgium.
Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine seeks to bring innovative treatments in therapeutic areas of high unmet medical need. The J&J IM campus in Beerse, has an outstanding ecosystem covering the complete drug development life cycle, with all capabilities from basic science to market access on one campus. Our campus has a successful track record of over sixty years of drug discovery and development and is one of the most innovative discovery engines of J&J IM worldwide.
Our medicinal chemistry group in Beerse focusses on developing small molecule modalities including peptide and protein degrader into innovative therapeutics to treat diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, immunological disorders and cancers.
We are currently looking for enthusiastic PhD-level chemists with the following profile.
Principal Responsibilities:

• Plans and performs experiments in the lab with a high degree of independence.
• Works in a team with strong can-do mindset and is responsible for efficient daily time-management.
• Contributes to the ideation of new compounds.
• Ensures detailed recording of all data and communicates on scientific results in internal meetings, peer-reviewed journals and conferences
• Identifies, discusses, and implements new scientific developments within team and project
  

Qualifications:
Education:

• A PhD in synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry with 0-3 years of related post degree experience or M.Sc. degree with 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  

Experience and Skills:
Required:

• Highly motivated and engaged team worker with a strong commitment to lab work.
• High level of creativity and efficiency with strong synthesis problem solving skills.
• Practical experience in the synthesis of complex molecules and/or synthetic methodology development, with solid understanding of modern synthetic & analytical techniques
• Excellent interpersonal & collaborative skills with an ability to operate as part of a team in highly inter-dependent environment is essential
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, fluent in English both verbal and in writing
  

Preferred:

• Additional experience within an academic laboratory (post-doctoral fellowship) or the pharmaceutical/biotech industry is a plus.
• A strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and research presentations is a plus.
• Experience in the field of Targeted Protein Degradation or Peptide chemistry is a plus.
