Summary (of role and how it fits within organisation):
The Purchasing Manager will lead a team of planners and buyers and improving existing supplier base performance whilst developing new suppliers. This is a 12-month fixed term contract.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overall responsibility for more than 6m GBP yearly sourcing volume
- Effectively managing and developing a team of 3 buyers
- Responsibility for improving supplier performance in relation to on time delivery, quality and pricing
- Overseeing the evaluation auditing and sourcing of new suppliers
- Work cross functionally with engineering, project management and manufacturing to foster on time delivery and achieve quality targets
- Manage the supplier complaint / cost recharging process for faulty parts
- Develop and deliver cost saving strategies
- Generation, through early involvement, of material cost estimates for new product developments
- Contributing to the general improvement of the purchasing related material data in the ERP (country of origin, tariff codes, N10A codes…)
- Raising the profile of the purchasing department within the organization
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to work collaborative across departments
- Confident and calm under pressure or in conflict
- Willingness to challenge status quo and posses a continuous improvement mindset
- Strong technical background
- Previous purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, with previous leadership experience being a plus
- Excellent Communication, Negotiation and Influencing skills
- Ability to coach and promote purchasing best practices to the rest of the team
Remuneration & Benefits:
- Competitive salary
- 25 days holiday per year plus bank holidays – increasing to 28 after 5 years’ service.
- Christmas shutdown period (deducted from annual leave entitlement)
- Pension Scheme with Aviva; ER contribution is 4% EE minimum contribution is 5%
