British Wax is a long-established family business, making specialised waxes for a wide range of businesses operating in cosmetic and personal care, food, pharmaceutical and various technical industries. We have recently built a new HQ in Redhill, Surrey with parking and electric vehicle charging within easy walking distance of Redhill train station.


What is the role about?

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Technical and Compliance Officer is the main point of contact within the business for all matters relating to product safety, legality, and quality as well as other aspects of compliance.

This role will suit a inquisitive, self-motivated, problem solver who enjoys identifying ways to improve processes and systems. You should have an interest in standards and regulations, and the ability to respond to changes.

This role can be full time or part time. Following a initial settling in period, a minimum of 3 working days in the Redhill office per week is required, with the opportunity to work from home for the remainder, or the pro-rata equivalent for part time.


What will you be responsible for?

Your main responsibilities will be to ensure product safety, quality, legality and other relevant standards through compliance with the following standards and regulatory frameworks:

  • Quality and Safety: ISO 9001:2015 and HACCP.
  • Safety of Cosmetic Products: ISO 22716, and UK and EU Cosmetic regulations.
  • Safety of Chemical Products: UK and EU REACH and CLP regulations.
  • Organic Products: a variety of standards for organic products.
  • Safety of Food additives and food contact materials: ISO 22000 and GFSI
  • Food Safety System Certification FSSC 22000
  • Sustainability: ISO 14001:2015, UK Environment Act, UK Plastic Tax.
  • UK and EU Controls on Animal By-Products
  • The 2015 Modern Slavery Act and general Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Other relevant standards and regulations


You will also be responsible for:

  • Working with all areas of the business, to maintain ISO and other external standards.
  • Regulatory Monitoring of EU, UK and global regulatory activity
  • Managing Technical data on all materials used within the business.
  • Setting up, assessing, and streamlining processes and procedures
  • Liaising with Safety Assessors to obtain cosmetic product safety reports and registering and maintaining formulation data on the Cosmetic Product Notification Portal.
  • Issuing and updating technical and safety data sheets / specifications.
  • Testing or managing the testing regime for the company’s product range.
  • Issuing certificates of analysis and certificates of conformity.
  • Investigate and respond to technical or quality complaints.
  • Submitting reports to data platforms such as Sedex and Ecovadis.
  • Liaising with non-profits and NGO’s.


Skills and abilities

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a related scientific field
  • Experience of working within or supporting a manufacturing operation
  • Experience working in a cosmetic, food or other related industry
  • Experience working with ISO quality systems
  • Experienced in setting up, assessing and streamlining processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of REACH and current requirements for compliance
  • Highly organised
  • Self-motivated
  • A team player with excellent communication skills


Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent


Salary: £35,000.00-£40,000.00 per year


Expected hours: 22.5 – 37.5 per week
